2 Primos Reserva Red 2023
2 Primos Reserva Tinto — a Douro Reserva red from 2Primos, with winemaking by Francisco Ribeiro Lemos.
The blend starts from the Douro’s classic triangle — Touriga Nacional for aromatics, Touriga Franca for elegance, Tinta Roriz for body — and adds Sousão, which is this wine’s interesting decision.
Sousão is the Douro variety with the highest acidity and the deepest colour, and it goes into blends precisely to supply the freshness the heat removes. It is little used because it is difficult to ripen: in a hot vintage it risks staying green, in a cool one it risks never ripening at all. When it works, it shows — and here it does, because the acidity runs higher than is usual in a Douro at 14%.
Barrel-aged, the result is a structured, enveloping Reserva with tannins that are present but balanced.
Serve between 16 °C and 18 °C, opened ahead of time. At the table: roast and grilled meats, oven bakes, small game and aged cheeses — dishes with flavour, because the structure can carry them.
The house also makes the 2 Primos Reserva Branco, and the pair works well presented together on a list that wants to show the Douro in both colours.
