Duas Quintas Red 2018
The Duas Quintas Tinto is a remarkable wine from the Douro Superior, meticulously crafted from grapes harvested at Quinta de Ervamoira and Quinta dos Bons Ares, located at 150 meters and 600 meters of altitude, respectively. These distinct locations contribute to the complexity and unique character of the wine, using traditional grape varieties that capture the exceptional potential of this wine region.
In the production process, special care begins in the vineyards where grapes are repeatedly tasted to determine the optimal harvest time. In the cellar, grapes are sorted by grape variety and plot, destemmed, and gently crushed before being sent to a variety of fermentation vessels including granite lagares, oak vats, concrete tanks, and stainless steel tanks. This diversified approach allows for maximum expression of each grape variety’s characteristics, adjusting fermentation to suit the peculiarities of each batch.
The maceration phase is carefully managed to extract the desired body and structure, resulting in wines of great depth. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, after which 20% of the wine matures in new French oak barrels, 30% in oak casks and vats, and the remaining 50% in stainless steel tanks for about 12 months, thus preserving the essential freshness and fruity character of the wine.
Bottled between April and July 2020, this final step prepares the wine to be enjoyed by enthusiasts who value both superior quality and the winemaking tradition of the Douro, offering an authentic experience deeply rooted in the lands and practices of this historic region.
