Quinta da Alorna Reserva das Pedras Red 2017

The tradition blended with modernity defines Quinta da Alorna, with nearly 300 years of history spanning five generations of the Lopo de Carvalho family. D. Pedro de Almeida was the grandfather of D. Leonor, the IV Marquesa de Alorna, also known as the poetess Alcipe. In 1723, the estate, owned by the Marquês de Alorna, was originally known as Quinta de Vale de Nabais.

Many years later, two of the Marquesa de Alorna’s daughters sold “Quinta dos Alorna” (as it was then called) to the Counts of Junqueira. The heirs later auctioned it publicly, and it eventually passed into the hands of Dr. Manuel Caroça—great-grandfather of the current shareholders—a respected dentist, commodities broker, and successful businessman who became the sole owner of Quinta da Alorna.

The Reserva das Pedras wines originate from old vines planted in 1986 in the Charneca region. With a mission to respect our history, these iconic vineyards grow in soil marked by the passage of the Tagus River, evident in the rounded pebbles, resulting in wines with an elegant and fresh profile that distinctly express the natural harmony between soil, climate, and plants.

For this wine, fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, with 50% aged in second-use French oak barrels. It undergoes stabilization and filtration before bottling.
