Quinta Alorna Colheita Red 2020
The tradition combined with modernity. Quinta da Alorna boasts nearly 300 years of history and has been in the Lopo de Carvalho family for five generations. D. Pedro de Almeida was the grandfather of D. Leonor, IV Marquesa de Alorna – the poet Alcipe. At the time (1723), the estate, belonging to the Marquês de Alorna, was known as Quinta de Vale de Nabais.
Many years later, two of the Marquesa de Alorna’s daughters sold “Quinta dos Alorna” (as it was then called) to the Counts of Junqueira, and the heirs sold it at a public auction, passing it into the hands of Dr. Manuel Caroça – great-grandfather of the current shareholders – a respected dentist, commodities broker, and successful businessman who eventually became the sole owner of Quinta da Alorna.
This wine underwent 2 days of skin maceration, and fermentation took place with temperature control at 23ºC. Malolactic fermentation started in stainless steel tanks and then aged for 4 months in American oak. The final blend was fined to clarify the wine before bottling.
