JMF 0%riginal Free Alcool Rosé 2023
JMF 0%riginal Free Alcool Rosé 2023 — An alcohol-free rosé from José Maria da Fonseca at Azeitão, on the Setúbal Peninsula, single-varietal Syrah. Winemaking by Domingos Soares Franco.
The difference between an alcohol-free wine and a flavoured grape juice lies in the order of operations. Here real wine is made first: harvest, conventional rosé vinification, fermentation and ageing in stainless steel, no wood. Only at the end is the alcohol removed, by a physical method — the separation is carried out at low temperature so that the aromatic compounds, which are volatile and lost to heat, survive the process. What remains is the profile of the original wine minus the alcohol, rather than a drink built from scratch to imitate wine.
José Maria da Fonseca was the first Portuguese producer to launch an alcohol-free wine, and the range also runs to a red and a white.
Serve at 8–10 °C. Aperitif, salads, sushi, grilled fish and light cooking. In hospitality it answers a concrete problem: a credible option for drivers, expectant mothers, those who abstain for health or religious reasons, and working lunches, without falling back on soft drinks.
