Chryseia Red 2022
In November 1998, the Symington family proposed to Bruno Prats a partnership in a new project to produce a high-quality non-fortified wine in the Douro.
This project came to fruition in 1999 with the establishment of PRATS & SYMINGTON Limitada, an equal partnership between the two families. Experimental vinifications in that first year helped identify and select the best vineyard plots and grape varieties suited for the project.
The CHRYSEIA 2000 was the first vintage released commercially. CHRYSEIA was a pioneer in the resurgence, now widely recognized, of non-fortified wines under the DOURO DOC classification. The name “CHRYSEIA” means “of gold” in classical Greek, echoing the name of the river in Portuguese. It remains true to its very own style.
Characterized by elegance and balance, CHRYSEIA offers depth without heaviness and presents a full-bodied character without aggression. It symbolizes the blending of noble Portuguese tradition with equally rich Bordeaux tradition towards a new modernity. This wine undergoes a 14-month aging process in French oak barrels.
