Vinha A4uatro Escolha White 2024
Vinha A4uatro Escolha Branco — A white from the Ave sub-region of Vinho Verde, with winemaking by Patrícia Peixoto.
This is a family project, and its aim is plain in the wine: aromatic, fresh whites carrying the Atlantic influence the Ave sub-region guarantees.
Geography does more than decorate the sheet here. The Ave is one of the sub-regions closest to the sea and among the wettest in the country, and both facts explain the wine. Abundant water means vigorous vines and slow ripening; proximity to the Atlantic means cool nights even in August. The fruit therefore reaches the winery with high natural acidity and little sugar — hence the 12% alcohol, and hence no need to pick early to preserve freshness, as one must in hot regions.
Vinification and ageing take place entirely in stainless steel with no wood contact at all, leaving fruit and the mineral register at the front.
A limpid citrus-yellow, with yellow and tropical fruit and good floral notes. Good volume and balance, marked freshness, a light close.
Serve between 8 °C and 10 °C, but not ice-cold: the wine improves as it warms in the glass. At the table: aperitif, salads, grilled fish, shellfish and light cooking. An easy-going white and an easy one to recommend.
The house also makes the single-vineyard Loureiro Grande Escolha, for anyone wanting to move up the range.
